HOMEMADE SOUP & LITTLE DEBBIE CUPCAKES

- Yesterday I made cut up potatoes for lunch - I didn’t eat them raw! , they're oven fried and one of my favorite non-recipe-recipes. I take two potatoes snap off pieces with a knife so they’re all bite sized but jagged , boil them for about a minute to get rid of the starch and cook them
in foil with olive oil and Tex Mex spice under broil for about twenty minutes. Then I
peel back the foil and let them crisp for about five minutes - depends on how hot your
oven gets. I also wanted some extra heat and sprinkled on red pepper flakes. It’s a
great substitute for fries. I washed them down with rip off Dr. Pepper called Dr. Zip!
Isn’t that name hysterical it sounds like some sort of marvel comic book villain.
Beware of Dr. Zip with zap gun death ray.
- I stopped by a dollar store and noticed a new chocolate bar , I can be a sucker for trying out a new flavor - most of the time I try and stay away from them knowing that if I found something I really liked it could be gone within a month. Anyway it was a new Reece
bar called whipped Reece? It was like an off spring of a Reece’s peanut butter cup and
a Mars bar it wasn’t bad kind of overly sweet but then I’m a Big Turk fan ( for some
reason I don’t think that’s called the same in the states - it’s the chocolate bar that’s
made of a long cherry jube-jube covers in chocolate. )
For dinner I decided to go healthy and make soup , I have to make a huge pot of this
when eating with my family cause nobody takes just one bowl. It’s rather ordinary vegetable beef soup but since it’s fresh it tastes so good. I used four cartons of beef broth.
Cut up half a bag of baby carrots , a whole bunch of celery , one large onion and sauteed
them. Then cooked up two packs of beef cubes ( I used stewing beef then cut them into
smaller pieces ) , at least twelve potatoes cut and cubed and cooked in olive oil till soft.
While the beef broth was heating up I threw in half a pack of egg noodles and when they
were half way cooked I dumped in everything else. 1 huge pot barely lasts till the next
day.
My dessert is one Little Debbie chocolate cupcake.
Food Scene of the day - I love that old magical movie called Journey to the Center of the
Earth especially the scene where after tiring of salt beef they come to a Forest of Mushrooms as Pat Boone dubbed it , and who looks to the evergreen height of them no bigger than a Smurf. They soon find themselves eating everything from mushroom soup , mushroom steak to even
James Mason rising to the tantalizing aroma of hot mushroom porridge.

Today I made a western sandwich for lunch - I had no green pepper so I just added ham and onions.
Later on at 8:00 I had a dish of homemade scalloped potatoes cause I was in the mood for them and used cream , butter , thin cut potatoes , dry mustard spice and some Parmesan cheese they turned out quite good.
Afterwards my sweet tooth was demanding chocolate so I had two Little Debbie cupcakes.
Food scene of the day -
- A Patch of Blue - what is this wonderful drink? Cries blind Elizabeth Hartman cradling her conical carton like it held the fountain of youth - why it’s just pineapple juice Sidney Poiter says realizing his new friend is blind to more than just sight and opens her up to a whole world of flavors including that new york deli favorite - corned beef. Oh and don’t forget their shopping scene in which Sidney Poitier makes it seem more fun than Disney land - zooming down the aisles while Selena stands on the cart but not to be undone is the Orange pyramid scene in which Selena starts an avalanche and Sidney to keep them all from toppling , hugs his body to it’s crumbling mountain chin resting on the top , his face a mask of regretful desperation perfectly paired with Selena’s innocent query did I drop one?

Home Made Pizza!

Today , er yesterday - in order to squeeze them in I'm almost a day behind.
Yesterday's diet -
At 1:00 p.m. I had lunch - half a bag of salad , with canned tuna on top , grape tomatoes and greek feta cheese , salad dressing. I drank a can of Pepsi and had XM's 44 - Adam Ant's Ant Music stuck in my head for the rest of the day I was even whistling it as I prepared homemade pizzas for me and my family.
at 7:00 - I dug into a delicious homemade pizza - ever have one of those homemade pizza nights?( when I was little my mother used to buy the Chef Boyardee Pizza Kit - now we go all out.) I topped mine with - pepperoni , black olives , green peppers , purple onions , tomatoes , zucchini , and mushrooms. Yum!
I was too stuffed to eat anything else.

Today -
It was Toonie Tuesday at KFC. I'm not sure if you have that in the states - basically it's a chicken deal - two pieces of chicken usually a thigh and a leg with fries for a little over $2.
I got that with the added option of a third piece and a Pepsi.
Later at 6:00 I had two of my remaining slices of leftover pizza and a container of Hunt's
butterscotch pudding.

Recall Andy Warhol's purple sundae - Where even the whipped cream and sauce was purple - that always makes me think of doing an entire day dedicated to one color - like doing an orange day with an entire menu made of orange food - Orange sherbet , mac n'cheese , Crush soda , carrot sticks - or red - chili or borst , red licorice , radishes.

Favorite movie food scene of the day - In That Touch of Mink , Gig Young is mistaken for a rakish wolf after Doris Day by her guarding friend Audrey Meadows ( Lucy's friend Ethel? in I Love Lucy ) who works in an automat ( remember those great old food cafeteria's where the food was in a little cubby behind a glass window ). Gig , unsuspecting , puts in a quarter for a
slice a pie and while he's grabbing it- Audrey's hand reaches out and smacks him across the face! Gig does a wild jump and quickly puts the pie back.
I hope you like the vintage ad! it's from a McCalls magazine from the 60's.

So what did you eat today?

GOBBLE N'SMACK - WHAT ARE YOU EATING? FOOD JOURNAL.

Hi , Peachalulu here , wondering what, exactly do you , and well others eat on a daily basis.
It’s just an experiment , I’m not a secret nutritionist or anything ( my diet should give that
away real quick! ) nor am I doing this to see if people gorge on , say , a whole pack of
Jimmy Dean sausage for breakfast. Call me curious , with so many food choices out there
what is it, that people are eating - I’m keeping this as an on going food journal - each day
I’ll post my food choices and I'm hoping you will too! - you don’t have to be
exactly precise like , with water - unless you’re as unusual about it as me , being a cola-holic
I can go days without a cool glass of water but I want you to be as honest as possible for
instance -

Sunday January 4
I didn’t eat until 2:00 p.m. - I devoured two take out McDonalds double cheeseburgers and washed it down with a can of Dr. Pepper.
Later at 5:30 - I fried up diced onion added two cups of leftover rice from the night before and sprinkled on Club House Tex Mex spice to jazz it up - with that I drank rip off diet cola from a recycled Big Gulp cup.
At 9:00 while watching a Leo DiCaprio movie I had a scoop of Heavenly Hash ice cream with
a drizzle of gooey, hot fudge.
At 10:00 half way through the movie I was contemplating making french fries with ketchup
but I resisted.

- My weight before Christmas was 128 , not bad , for my size 5'7. But after turkey , bacon quiche , pumpkin pie , cool whip , ice cream sundaes ( complete with cool whip , hot fudge
and marachino cherries ) I gained 4 pounds. I am now 132 so my diet will probably cool
off from mentioning what I’m actually eating and balloon to what I’m dreaming of eating.

- Don’t hold back on snacks! - The day before I had two Icy Square chocolates from a
Christmas Present. ( which is so minor you may not think to include these nibbles ) nor on a secret urge you resisted - for instance even though I was eating Heavenly Hash & hot fudge I couldn’t help wishing it was the somewhat lighter tasting Strawberry Sundae from McDonalds. P.S. you don't have to post your weight.

Did you know Charo told a New York Daily News reporter back in the 80's that she liked
lettuce , cucumber , salami , anchovy and pepperoni on her pizza?!

* Movie Food Scene for the Day -In Hitchcock's sumptuous color extravaganza To Catch a Thief , the world’s most glamorous duo - Cary Grant and the icily perfect Grace Kelly have a tailgate picnic in a juicy red alpha romero. She pulls out fried chicken from her picnic
basket to coyly offer - leg or breast? To which Cary Grant at his most dare-I-say-it-deadpan pause replies - you choose. This sly dilemma was duplicated on the small screen in an episode of a short lived ( 3 year ) spin off of Growing Pains - Just the Ten of Us which had a coach with 4 teenage daughters one with aspirations of becoming a nun ( a hilarious Heather Langekamp of horror notoriety A Nightmare on Elm Street ) going to an all catholic boys school. The episode called The dinner Test had the harried father gleefully offering his daughter’s
never-to-be-boyfriend a plate of chicken to which he’d slyly ask - so what does a young man like to sink his teeth into thigh or breast? To the applause of the girls the boy ( a shy Matthew Perry )wisely replies - Wing.

So , what did you eat today?
